Specific examples of PBL learning
In the "Local Problem Solving Project" for senior high school students, a series of activities are conducted in which students discover local problems on their own and propose solutions. 2023's theme was "alleviating loneliness among the elderly," and students visited nearby elderly care facilities and conducted interviews. As a result, they planned an "exchange meeting to explore common interests between the elderly and children," and visited the facilities with homemade sweets. The participating senior citizens commented that they had a good laugh for the first time in a long time, and this activity continues on a regular basis to this day.
Various forms of international exchange
Seigaku-kan has sister schools in the U.S., Australia, and France, and offers an annual short-term study abroad program. The "International Debate Tournament" for junior and senior high school students uses English to discuss topics such as "Harmonizing Environmental Issues and Economic Growth" and "Ethics in AI." In 2023, Seigaku-kan will collaborate with its sister school in Australia on an online project on "Sustainable Dietary Practices" to compare traditional food cultures of the two countries. This project provides students with opportunities to develop international perspectives, such as by comparing the traditional food cultures of the two countries.
Special Support Education System and Outcomes
Three teachers qualified in special support education are stationed in the "Easy-to-understand Classroom," a study support room, to provide individualized instruction. The "Study Habit Diagnostic Test" is administered regularly to identify each student's weak points, and then specific methods are taught, such as "how to review 10 minutes a day" and "how to take notes. According to past data, 80% of the students who received the instruction responded that they "gained confidence in learning," and the program has achieved an average improvement of 15% in math and Japanese grades.
